Dr. Gary Brown and his students have been discovering how to build and program robots in the school’s new Robotics Program. The goal of the program is to strengthen students’ understanding of science, technology, engineering, mathematics, and STEM while enjoying fun activities. Throughout this challenge-based learning, students are engaged in immersive hands-on activities.
Students work in teams with various roles, such as Field Engineer, Inventory Manager, Project Manager, and Building Manager. All students are responsible for learning how to program the robot via laptop computer and LEGO’s Mindstorms Program.
Students are progressing beyond basic movements such as: moving in a straight line, navigating curves, and picking up and moving objects. Students will soon be learning about how to maximize the use of the robots advanced sensors, such as gyro, color, touch, and ultrasonic.
